The Origin Story
We Envisioned What the Juneau Experience Could Be
We started in 1994, taking guests on hiking tours around Juneau. From the beginning, we believed that Alaskan tours could be done differently.
We knew we could show visitors Southeast Alaska as locals see it.
We focused on small groups. We hired local people, our neighbors, who know the trails and waters better than anyone.
And we continue to operate this way three decades later.

From one boat to a fleet built on thirty years of learning.
1994
The Start of Something Different
Our first excursions started with hiking teams and a small team that believed we could show people a different Alaska.
1998
We Head to Mendenhall
Our team launched the Guide’s Choice Adventure with USFS trail access to the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area.
2004
We're On The Water
We purchased our first vessel and launched two pilot tours to kickstart our water excursions.
2009
Our Trips Become a Classroom
Through Whales & Glacier Science Science Adventure, we began offering educational trips that teach guests about the Alaskan ecosystem.
2026
We Continue Focusing on the Little Things
More than three decades in, our mission remains the same: We operate on the principle of safety, service, sustainability, and a sense of wonder.
