Town, Tram & Timberline Trek
Enjoy four tours in one! This fully guided trip gives you the best of Juneau`s history with an exclusive downtown tour, a ride on an aerial tram with dramatic views, an easy walk in the timberline wilderness atop Mount Roberts, and some time sampling products made from the rainforest in the Alpine Tea House - Juneau's peak attraction.
Board the shuttle with your interpretive guide and set off through the historic district. You'll pass by the Capitol Building and the Governor's Mansion while listening to tales of Juneau past and present. A unique picture stop will give you the opportunity to frame your ship against the dramatic backdrop of Mt Roberts and downtown Juneau. Next, board a modern gondola for a smooth ride to an altitude of 1800` above the city. Spectacular vistas appear as you soar over the tall spruce trees and jagged rock outcroppings.
Next it's out to the trail with your naturalist-guide, where you will experience the quiet solitude of the temperate rain forest, the lushness of alpine meadows, and the splendor of mountain cirques. At any time during the hike, you may glimpse a wandering black bear, a bald eagle, or a whistling marmot. Frequent stops will provide time for interpretation about the medicinal and edible uses of the forest's flora. These activities culminate with a short interpretive presentation within the Alpine Tea House. Here you will sample Alaskan made herbal teas, fireweed honey and other interesting products derived from the bounty of the Alaskan rainforest.
Finish the tour with your guide at the Nature Center as you finish your cup of tea perusing interpretive displays and unique outdoor gifts. You may choose to extend your stay on the mountain and view the complimentary Native cultural film `Seeing Daylight`, venture to the Raptor Center for a closer look at a live bald eagle, or check out the various mountaintop shops. Your tram ticket is valid for unlimited rides all day. Best of all, the Tram is conveniently located in the heart of the Juneau shopping district making for an easy transition from wilderness adventure to retail therapy.
